Macmillan India Stories to Remember New Edition

I was not allowed to use my preferred style of illustration because these books were for kids who, supposedly, wouldn’t understand anything but a representative style. Same story everywhere, so I don’t go looking for illustration opportunities any longer. Nevertheless, I have my long time friend Sudeshna Dasgupta to thank for this opportunity – and for the fact that she handled my complaints with a whole lot of patience!

The cover template was done in-house and I had no say in the matter. I did two more cover illustrations and all three books, I am childishly happy to note, were sold out at the Calcutta Book Fair the year they were published!

All but  ‘I entirely believe you, madam…’ (which is in watercolour on handmade paper) are in mixed media on newsprint.

Year of publication: 2006.

Cover Hound of the Baskervilles Holmes...now halted near the window They left her in a room upstairs Have you read anything else in this message, Mr. Holmes? The house glimmered like a ghost 'Go back!' She said Barrymore was crouching at the window with the candle held against the glass Stapleton was abusing Sir Henry Those scenes are indelibly fixed...upon my memory A shadow fell across the opening of the hut Not a whisper rose from the dark figure 'I entirely believe you, madam,' said Holmes Holmes had emptied five barrels of his revolver into the creature's side She has fainted from brutal treatment and exhaustion Holmes and I sat on either side of a blazing fire
